Manager, Systems Engineering

We are looking for a Manager, Systems Engineering to join our team in Santa Clarita, CA.

As our Manager, Systems Engineering you will have responsibility for the systems engineering group who manage the concept, design, and validation of embedded systems. You will plan, direct and manage all system engineering activities with project & program budget responsibility. You will be responsible for setting, implementing and maintaining standards for the systems engineering department, ensuring adequate staffing levels, developing and mentoring talent while establishing goals and providing tools and guidance.

Location : Santa Clarita, CA

Salary Range: $ 136,000.00 - $181,300.00 per year

Your Challenge:

  • Leading, mentoring and developing the Systems Engineering Group.

  • Set, pursue, and achieve group and Business Unit goals.

  • Direct group assignments to develop system requirements and specifications for various systems through multiple project phases, make decisions and recommendations that have an impact on the Engineering and related activities of the business unit.

  • Evaluate available Engineering tools and needed resources for development and capability advancements.

  • Recruiting, coaching, and mentoring highly talented engineers.

  • Influence and establish engineering best practices through solid design decisions, process development and optimization, and continuous improvement.

  • Directing equipment failure investigations, diagnosing faulty product operation, making recommendations, and driving root cause determination.

  • Estimating costs and contributing department-level inputs to proposals and business case analyses.

  • Oversee and lead system architecture development and technical approach strategies.

  • Contribute to the Business Development Teams’ new business.

  • Providing subject matter expertise to technical customer service.

  • Writing performance requirements for product development and engineering projects, such as IRAD or Capital projects.

What You Bring

  • Seasoned professional with demonstrated leadership experience with 10+ years of engineering experience with at least 3+ years of engineering management experience.

  • Experience working in an MBSE Environment

  • Hands-on ability to provide guidance if the team is unable to meet schedule.

  • A thorough understanding of system and software design processes.

  • Solid foundation in design, data structures and algorithms, and strong analytical and debugging skills with customer-facing product and specification development experience.

  • Experience with embedded real-time OS (e.g. VxWorks, Linux) and deployed military electronics using custom and COTS electronics.

  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing processes and techniques, and Design for Rugged Environments.

  • Familiarity with the latest industry technologies, such as VPX, Gen 3 PCI Express, 40GE Ethernet, 40Gb Infiniband, USB 3.0, DDR, 4 memory, etc.

  • Track record of producing results, meeting financial and schedule targets, and leading product development teams.

  • Ability to think outside the box and systematically deal with highly dynamic engineering and organizational situations.

  • Strong debug/integration/troubleshooting experience as the leader and sounding board for the group.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as being an experienced presenter.

  • Prior responsibility for interfacing directly with customers, management, technical staff, and internal / external organizations.

  • Experience in proposal development, particularly Engineering Change Proposals and Basis of Estimate development, and other contract deliverables.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field (Electrical / Systems / Aerospace Engineering)

  • Master’s degree in a technical field and/or MBA is a plus.
