Curtiss-Wright Corporation IT Apprentice in UK, United Kingdom

Curtiss-Wright are looking to recruit talented people to join our level 3 IT Apprenticeship Scheme in September 2024 at our state-of-the-art facility by Bournemouth Airport. With three Curtiss-Wright Divisions having operations in Bournemouth, there are plenty of opportunities to progress your career on successful completion of your apprenticeship. We design, manufacture and market a wide range of Curtiss-Wright engineering products and solutions from the facility, which employs around 500 people.

Our entrepreneurial environment provides our employees with excellent experiences that enable them to develop their skills through stretch assignments and the opportunity to work with the best talent in the industry.

The facility was opened in 2017 and features modern open-plan working arrangements. Within the facility, the Wright Lounge is a flexible eating and working space. We have free car parking, cycle racks, showers and changing rooms, alongside outdoor eating facilities.

How It Works

As an IT Apprentice, you will receive training from industry professionals in one of Curtiss-Wright's key segments.

You will have the opportunity to work across multiple departments within the organisation, gaining valuable hands-on experience with our experts in IT all whilst earning a level 3 qualification; you will also be required to complete the end point assessment as part of the course.

You will work with us onsite typically 4 days per week and you will also attend college / university on a day release format in order to complete your Apprenticeship qualifications.

You will support different departments and work in a supervised environment for the majority of your Apprenticeship.

The Challenge

  • Working with the IT Operations team at our Christchurch site you will learn about how a large global organisation uses information technology to meet the ever-growing needs of high-tech electronics design and manufacturing companies, and how we use technology to secure and safeguard the data that these businesses rely on.

  • Your role will be hands-on working directly with the staff in all departments, providing them with the help and support they need using the IT resources required for their jobs. This will involve managing network user accounts, file shares on centralised severs, network printers, as well as building and imaging computers from new, and maintaining the network infrastructure to keep everything connected.

  • Throughout your apprenticeship with us, alongside your work in an IT support role, we will also give you various projects to work on. These projects may involve managing the rollout of a new software tool across a department or business unit; how to improve a current process that may need updating; or responding to the ever-changing needs of our security teams to keep our company data safe as various vulnerabilities are identified. For these projects you will need to conduct research, identify various solutions to the problem at hand, decide on the best solution to fit our requirements, present this solution to other members of the IT team, then plan and put your solution into action.

  • During your apprenticeship you will work in a supervised environment but will be encouraged to develop your own skills so you can become a proactive member of the team. At the end of the apprenticeship you will have the skills necessary to continue a career in the IT industry where there are many different specialist paths you can take.

Qualifications

  • You should have an active interest in computing and new technologies, but no previous experience is necessary for this role. We will teach you how to use all the tools that help us manage large numbers of users and computers across a network that spans around the world. As part of the role, you will also get a great insight into the way all other departments of the business use different technologies to carry out their various functions.
